Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie

The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, located at the entrance to the village of Navelli along the road leading to the historic centre, dates back to the 15th-16th century and was originally built as a chapel dedicated to the worship of the Madonna in a strategically important transit point.

The facade, simple and linear, features a gable profile with a Renaissance portal in local stone, above which opens a circular rose window, typical of Abruzzese churches of the period. The interior, with a single nave, houses a Baroque gilded wooden altar and several 17th-century canvases; worthy of note is the finely decorated wooden ceiling.

The church played an important role in the daily life of the village: a reference point for saffron merchants and for shepherds heading along the Tratturo Magno. It is located a short distance from the monumental Porta Santa Maria, the main entrance to the “Spina di Volpe” quarter.
