An excursion along the most significant stretch of the Centurelle Montesecco sheep-track, in the footsteps of ancient shepherds and ancient agricultural traditions combined with local crafts and local flavours.

We start out from the elegant village of Navelli, one of the most beautiful in Italy and the undisputed kingdom of saffron, and following the ancient sheep-track we reach the summit of the Serra di Navelli, a panoramic balcony over the Navelli plateau, rich in spring blooms. From here, the view sweeps around us from the Gran Sasso mountain massif to the Sirente and Maiella with Morrone. At a slow pace, like that adopted by shepherds with their flocks, we head towards Collepietro, a marginal village of shepherds and farmers. Here we are greeted by the small historic centre adorned with magnificent multicoloured crocheted doilies, the ancient practice of local women.

We return across the plateau to the starting point.

From Navelli (679 m) to Collepietro (850 m) via the Serra di Navelli (955 m) and back to the plateau.
