Situated a short distance from the church of Santa Maria Assunta, it was originally an integral part of the abbey complex, as confirmed by documents attributing the initial dedication of the monastery to the same saint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The building is a single nave, devoid of an apse, of modest size (18.70 \u00d7 5.60 m), with a six-rib vault and six bays defined by ogival arches set on slender semi-piers. The orientation is unusual, with a South-South-West axis forming approximately 100\u00b0 relative to the main church. There are three entrances: the main one, preceded by an eighteenth-century portico, a rear one for the clergy, and a side one to facilitate the flow of pilgrims. Light enters through very narrow slits and two rose windows, one plain and one decorated, while two large low-relief panels separate the faithful's area from the sanctuary. The reliefs depict a winged dragon and a griffin, surrounded by vegetal scrolls and traces of original colour, dated to 1263 and commissioned by Abbot Teodino, who restored the building. Late inscriptions attribute it to Charlemagne, although the architecture and documents do not confirm an earlier foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The interior frescoes constitute a complete and rare pictorial cycle in Abruzzo, comprising:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stories of Christ's Childhood: from the Annunciation to the Nativity, the Presentation in the Temple, and the Massacre of the Innocents.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stories of the Passion: Entry into Jerusalem, Washing of the Feet, Last Supper, Betrayal of Judas, Capture of Christ, Flagellation, Deposition, and Burial.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stories from the life of Saint Pellegrino: six episodes in the second bay, between miracles and martyrdom, indicating a local cult, probably connected to a pilgrim saint of Syrian origin.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To complete the figurative cycle, scenes of Judgment, Paradise and Hell, prophets, saints, the liturgical Calendar with the Twelve Months and allegorical scenes of work, and geometric and stellar decorations on the vaults, which visually unify the space and evoke the sky and vegetal tendrils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The frescoes were created by three masters, each with a distinct style:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Master of the Childhood of Christ \u2013 elegant and traditional, slender figures and theatrical architecture.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maestro of the Passion \u2013 robust figures, simple background, greater vivacity and realism.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calendar Master or Miniaturist \u2013 attention to detail, Swabian influence and refined miniature composition.<br><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The oratory is also significant for its liturgical function: the calendar and scenes related to monastic work and liturgy reflect the Benedictine ideal of \u2019Ora et Labora\u201c (Pray and Work), integrating human time with divine time.
