Prata d'Ansidonia is one of those places where the landscape tells the story even before the monuments. Located in the hinterland of L'Aquila, the area preserves testimonies that span the centuries, from ancient Rome to the Middle Ages, offering visitors a slow journey through archaeology, architecture and nature.

Strolling through the alleyways of prata d'ansidonia<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

A few kilometres from the town centre is one of the most striking sites in the Apennines: the archaeological area of Peltuinum<\/strong>, an ancient Roman city built along an important road axis that connected the interior of the peninsula to trade and pastoral routes. Walking through the remains of the ancient settlement, one can still perceive the urban structure of the city, while not far away emerges the scenic Church of St Paul of Peltuinum<\/strong>, built in medieval times using Roman materials. The contrast between the ancient stones and the open landscape makes this place particularly evocative, especially at sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Middle Ages come alive in the nearby Camponeschi Castle<\/strong>, a fortified village built to control the territory and defend the transhumance routes. The walls, towers and stone houses tell of a settlement designed for protection and self-sufficiency, offering today one of the most striking examples of defensive architecture in inland Abruzzo. In these moments, the flavours of the local cuisine also emerge, made up of simple products linked to the mountains, such as peasant soups, cheeses and preparations based on cereals and pulses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prata d'Ansidonia is an ideal destination for those who enjoy slow, cultural tourism. Here a visit is not limited to a single monument, but becomes a journey through different eras, where the landscape combines Roman ruins, fortified villages and cultivated fields. It is a place that invites you to walk, observe and be guided by the layering of the land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/strong> Prata d'Ansidonia is about 30 km from L'Aquila, 75 km from Pescara and 30 km from Sulmona. The village can be reached mainly by car. There are regional bus connections with L'Aquila and Sulmona, often with intermediate changes. The nearest railway stations are those of Sulmona and L'Aquila.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
