The Conventual Church of St Francis of Assisi, located at the entrance to the village of Carapelle Calvisio, is one of the most significant historical monuments of the town. Dating back to the 15th century, with probable origins in the 14th, it bears witness to the presence of the Friars Minor Conventual who founded the convent here in 1450. The façade is embellished with an elegant Gothic portal surmounted by a frescoed lunette and a rose window with no rays. The interior, with a single nave, contains 15th- to 17th-century frescoes, Baroque altars and decorations of great artistic value. Despite the damage caused by the 2009 earthquake, the church remains a symbol of the history and cultural identity of the village.
