Navelli

Navelli is one of the most representative places on the plateau that bears its name and represents the historical heart of the cultivation of the L'Aquila saffron PDO. This precious agricultural product, which has been cultivated here for centuries, is considered one of the world's finest saffron due to its quality, aromatic intensity and processing methods that are still strongly linked to tradition.

The village is built on a hill overlooking a unique agricultural landscape. The fields surrounding the village turn purple during the flowering of the crocuses in autumn, creating a very impressive natural spectacle that attracts visitors and lovers of botany and gastronomy every year.

The historical centre preserves stately palaces, churches and alleyways that tell of a past linked to the saffron trade, which for centuries was one of the territory's main economic assets. Among the most important buildings is Santucci Palace, an imposing 16th-century residence built by one of the most influential families in the town. The palace dominates the town with its monumental structure and is one of the most significant examples of Renaissance architecture in the area.

Walking through its streets means discovering a community that keeps alive deeply rooted agricultural and gastronomic traditions, in an area where landscape, history and culture continue to intertwine.
