Prata D’Ansidonia
Prata d'Ansidonia is located in the Subequana Valley, an area that holds some of the most important historical testimonies of inland Abruzzo. The town is immersed in a landscape of hills, cultivated fields and mountains that mark the horizon of the Gran Sasso.
The history of this place has its roots in antiquity. Not far from the town is the archaeological site of Peltuinum, a Roman city that was an important trading centre along the Via Claudia Nova.
Walking through the ruins of the ancient city, one can still recognise the theatre, the remains of the walls and other structures that tell the story of daily life more than two thousand years ago.
The historic centre preserves stone houses, narrow streets and views that testify to the continuity of life in this area over the centuries.
Prata d'Ansidonia's location makes it a strategic point between the Aterno Valley and the Navelli plateau, linking different landscapes and traditions of inland Abruzzo.
This place is an essential stop for those who wish to learn about the relationship between archaeology, landscape and community in the Gran Sasso area.
