Church of St Sebastian

The Church of San Sebastiano, the parish church of Navelli, stands on the remains of the ancient medieval fortified town, beneath the baronial palace that dominates the village. The facade, hidden by the surrounding buildings, hints at an elegant sixteenth-century wooden portal which introduces into the nave.

Built in 1631, the church displays a late Baroque style with Neoclassical accents, which was consolidated by 18th-century restorations following the earthquake of 1703. It has three naves and thirteen altars, each dedicated to saints or the Madonna, many of which are linked to the ancient feudal families of Navelli. The naves and altars are enhanced with stucco decorations, while the bell tower, originally a watchtower, recalls the defensive origins of the village.
