The Tower

Collepietro Tower is the symbol of the village and the only significant remnant of the ancient medieval castle that once dominated the Tirino Valley and the Navelli Plain. Dating back to the 12th-13th century, the tower was used to control traffic on the Tratturo Magno, the main transhumance route. Built with local limestone using a “rubble-filled” masonry technique, it still retains some narrow loopholes, while its original summit has been reduced by earthquakes over the centuries. Located in the upper part of the village, it today offers a breathtaking panorama stretching from the Gran Sasso to the Maiella mountains.
