From Carapelle Calvisio to Castelvecchio Calvisio in the Baronia territory

Let us discover the two ancient medieval villages that, more than any other, have marked the history of this magnificent territory, where the Baronia of Carapelle was born.

We start with a visit to the small town of Carapelle Calvisio, which over time has maintained the beauty of the medieval village with its medieval churches unchanged, and we walk along the tratturello in a mixed environment of woods and clearings to reach the elegant Castelvecchio Calvisio, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages in the Park. Here we will visit the marvellous historical centre that represents one of the masterpieces of Abruzzo's medieval architecture. There will be no shortage of visits to the churches, true architectural jewels of this Gran Sasso area that has so much to tell.

From Carapelle Calvisio (915 m) to Castelvecchio Calvisio (1090 m) and back

• Height difference: approx. 150 m
• Length: approx. 5 km
• Route: outward and return
• Minimum age: 10 years

• The exact meeting point will be communicated directly by the guide 24/48 hours before departure
• Green light for little explorers aged 11 and up who are used to walking on mountain trails
• Minimum 6 participants
• Dogs allowed: Yes, on a leash.

Minimum equipment required: trekking shoes with appropriate socks (NO phantom socks), breathable layered clothing with long trousers, winter hat and bandana, neck warmer, wind and rain jacket, softshell or fleece, rucksack with full water bottle (1 litre), snacks and packed lunch. Optional poles (recommended).
